How to Tell if You’ve Picked a Winning March Madness Bracket

Every year during the month of March, college basketball, NBA and regular ol’ sports fans gather together to guess the winning teams of the NCAA March Madness games. The 2022 games have already begun and all bracket guesses have been submitted. How will your bracket rack up against the stats? Is there a method to picking teams that are most likely to win? Probably, but selecting your bracket seems to be more of a game of chance. At least that’s how it was for me when I won the March Madness pool within my friend group last year. I am in no way an expert on college basketball. In fact, I am pretty much the exact opposite of an expert. But, if you’re like me and have no idea what you’re doing but want to participate anyways, keep reading to determine if your bracket is pool-winning worthy.

The following steps are suggestions I observed last year to select a winning bracket. If you didn’t chose to follow any of these when selecting your teams, there’s always next year, champ!

Step One: Figure out which teams celebrities are rooting for.

This is probably the most crucial step to selecting winning teams because celebrities know what they’re doing when it comes to sports. You don’t want to pick just any celebrity to trust with your bracket, it has to be someone you admire, someone who would never let you down. For instance, I made it to the third round last year because Jason Sudeikis’ favourite team is Kansas State. The entire reason I won is because 10 years ago Selena Gomez had a dog named Baylor. Go Baylor Bears!

Step Two: Look up the seed rating of each team

I have no idea what a “seed” is. An initialism of “super extremely excellent dudes”? Perhaps. What it means isn’t a vital part of selecting your bracket. If you didn’t look up to see which teams were a one seed team and which were 16 seed teams, your chances of winning have just dropped significantly. If you have a 16 seed team set to win it all, I’m sorry but this won’t be your year.

Step Three: Panic and select the teams with the most interesting looking logo.

There are a lot of teams to choose from and sometimes it gets overwhelming. The pressure of choosing a perfect bracket becomes too much sometimes and you want to go with the team with the highest quality designed team logo. Like North Carolina. Their team has a very recognizable logo. You’re not sure where you’ve seen it before, but it is recognizable.

Step four: Throw caution to the wind and blindly submit your bracket.

Fill your bracket with one seed teams and pick the rest with your eyes closed. Let the universe select for you. Who cares? A winning bracket is comparable to a winning lottery ticket.

I wish you all the best of luck with your brackets this year and hope you win whatever pool you have entered. This really is a game of chance, but let’s be honest, if a celebrity isn’t backing the team, they’re not going to win.
