Gift Ideas for the Mother who Has Everything

Mother’s Day is just around the corner. Are you ready to pay a suitable tribute to the most important and deserving woman in your life?

Mothers are superheroes. So, if you have not yet made it clear to your mother that truly, she is the strongest, kindest and wisest woman, then I suggest you hurry and get her these small tokens that will let the world know that really, she is Wonder Woman.

And after you do that, clear the decks for Mother’s Day weekend as your job is to spend the weekend giving her the time, attention, and appreciation she deserves as the unsung hero of the family. Is she not the one who gets up early so others can sleep late? Is she not the one who backburners watching “All Creatures Great and Small” so others can watch yet another edifying “Fast and Furious” movie? Does her skill set not range from short-order cooking to negotiating major ceasefires between other family members?

In addition to the Wonder Woman accessories, here are a few other ideas for this year:

This is a fantastic Waffle Maker, and you should use it Mother’s Day morning while Mom is sleeping in, taking a walk or soaking in the tub while the rest of the family tidies up, gets flowers and makes breakfast. It is so easy and fool-proof that even young kids (supervised) can make perfect waffles. And it comes with recipes for a few variations.

Then someone else should take on laundry, do yard work, grocery shopping, chauffeuring kids to various activities while Mom gets a few hours relaxing in this cheery new hammock you’ve gotten for her.

And while she’s chilling, she might enjoy a bit of escapism reading a book about other women like her—strong, resilient, and resourceful superheroes. Here are two suggestions she might like:

This is Beryl Markham’s 1942 memoir about growing up in Kenya in the early 1900s and becoming a bush pilot. Her adventures in these bygone days included being the first woman to fly the Atlantic from east to west. Another good one is:

This fellow Wonder Woman, Jill Ker Conway, grew up in the remote and desolate Australian outback but managed to make her way to Sydney to become an accomplished historian and then on to the US where she became the first woman president of the prestigious Smith College. Your mother’s accomplishments may be less well known in the world but at least on this day, they are no less impressive, and she deserves the company of other inspiring women for at least a few hours.

Simply put, what Moms want the most is for the family to pause and appreciate how much they do and how often they put others’ needs and interests above their own. So, give her a day of rest and make sure other family members take care of things for her without complaint. Make her favorite meal, watch her favorite shows, wait on her and tell her how amazing she is and how thankful you are to have her!

And of course, a gift certificate to a facial or a massage or to her favorite shop or restaurant wouldn’t hurt either!
