Hello Toronto, Blue Jays Fans,
For the first time since their back-to-back World Series Championships in (1992 & 1993), the Toronto Blue Jays finds themselves as the early favourite to win the 2022 World Series according to many preseason predictions by Baseball experts – including this one by ‘The Ringer” who have them atop their Power Rankings.
I vividly remember watching the Toronto Blue Jays first Major League Baseball Championship in 1992 when Mike Timlin fielded a bunt down the first base line and threw out Otis Nixon of the Atlanta Braves at first base. After catching the ball for the final out, Joe Carter began jumping up and down like a crazed kangaroo. My favourite pitcher Dave Steib running to the mound sliding like the Coyote does after the Road Runner takes a sharp turn, when chasing him.
I also clearly remember the 1993 win. Who can forget that one? Joe Carter this time batting, facing Philadelphia Phillies closer Mitch “Wild Thing” Williams. With a 2-2 offering falling to the mound Joe Carter hooks the Williams pitch down the left field line, staying just fair. Joe Carter once again doing his best kangaroo impression hopping around the bases, being sure to touch each bag for a historic walk off home run, giving the Blue Jays back-to-back World Series Championships.
Although we have had a couple of playoff appearances since, and some close calls, like last year’s run which saw the Blue Jays fall just one game shy of the post season.
This year’s squad just has that special feeling. That 1992-1993 World Series vibe!
