Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics (Canadian Edition)

Hello Canadian Olympic Fans,

The 2022 Winter Olympics officially kicked off on Friday February.4th, 2022 in Beijing’s open air National Stadium also called the “Bird’s Nest”.
The ceremony started with an amazing light show and performance by 3000 local dancers who helped entertain everyone, during the hour-long parade of athletes.
After the first weekend of the games, Canada sits in 6th place, tied with Sweden for total amount of medals.  Canada earned 6 medals (1 Gold, 1 Silver & 4 Bronze).

Here are the 9 medal winners for Canada in the 5 different events, who got to see their Canadian flag raised in Beijing:
Max Parrot from Cowansville, Ouebec won Gold in the Men’s Snowboard  – Slopestyle Event:
An amazing accomplishment for this athlete who missed the 2018/19 Season while undergoing treatment for Hodgkin lymphoma cancer.  He upgrades his Silver medal placing in the same event at the last Olympics in Pyeongchang in 2018.
Mikael Kingsbury from Ste-Agathe, Quebec won Silver in Freestyle Skiing  – Men’s Moguls Event:
Nicknamed Mik, the King of Moguls or the Wayne Gretzky of moguls.  He fell just short of capturing that second gold medal for Canada this weekend.
Mark McMorris from Regina, Saskatchewan won Bronze in the Men’s Snowboard – Slopestyle Event:
With a nickname McLovin how can you not love this guy.  Mark captures his 3rd Bronze medal in his 3rd Olympic Games in a row after winning bronze at the event in Pyeongchang in 2018 & Sochi in 2014.  He joined his teammate Max Parrot on the podium in Beijing.
Kim Boutin from Sherbrooke, Quebec won Bronze in Short Track Speedskating – Women’s 500 M Event:
After winning 3 medals at the last Olympics, Kim is on the right track starting off with a Bronze in the 500M event which she is a former world record holder.  She will press her luck in the upcoming 1000M & 1500M events – later these in these games.
Isabelle Weidemann from Ottawa, Ontario won Bronze in Speed Skating – Women’s 3000M Event:
After being a member of the National Team since 2014, Isabelle earns her first Olympic medal of her career.  She is the first member of her Speed Skating Family to get that Olympic shine.
Canada’s Mixed Ski Jumping Team – wins Bronze:
Alexandria Loutitt from Calgary, Alberta.  Abigail Strate from Calgary, Alberta. Matthew Soukup, from Calgary, Alberta & Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes, from Toronto, Ontario joins forces to earn Canada this first medal in a Team Event.

Join me in congratulating all our Canadian participants in Beijing and a special shout out to these medal winners for making Canada so proud!
