After two years of no Osheaga, music festival fans are ecstatic to finally see the light at the end of the Pandemic tunnel. The Montreal-based festival has promised some heavy hitters for its 15- year anniversary. So, who can you expect to see at Osheaga 2022?
Headlining opening night is the Foo Fighters. Who were set to headline last year before the festival decided to make the decision to cancel. Friday night’s opening opening acts include some big names such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kygo, CharliXCX and Big Sean. Looking at the rest of the line-up for the weekend, it begs the question- are music festivals back to what they once were pre-pandemic? Or do we still have a ways to go before artists are comfortable performing in large crowds?
I’ve never considered myself one to be out of touch with pop culture and the music scene, but this year’s acts below the first line might as well be written in another language. Wet Leg, TSHA,ORION, someone named Robert Robert? Did Osheaga struggle to find musical acts willing to travel to Montreal post-lockdown? Or were funds a little short this year after two revenue-less years? I refuse to believe the third option- that I am simply out of touch with the musical tastes of twenty-somethings. Some other big names Osheaga managed to secure are Dua Lipa, A$AP Rocky and Machine Gun Kelly.
