This year’s halftime show was for millennials and millennials ONLY! Goosebumps were felt across the country by 30-45 year olds. As soon as Snoop Dogg uttered the words “Rollin’ with the D. R. E.” the stadium lit up. The Super Bowl LVI Halftime show was headlined by Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar- basically your classic middle school dance line-up.
Hearing “In Da Club” performed live by 50 Cent reminded us of a simpler time- trying to untangled your headphones in between classes so you could listen to 50 Cent on your ipod.
Each hit performed during the Halftime show was at one point or another burned onto a CD with something generic like “Summer hit mix Vol. 1” written in sharpie on the front. Don’t know how to burn a CD? This show was not meant for you!
I don’t have the exact numbers, but I am sure hoodie sales saw an all-time high in the early 2000’s after the release of the film 8 Mile. Don’t you remember how cool you felt with your hood up, listening to “Lose Yourself” on a portable Sony CD player stretching out the pockets of your hoodie? Millennials were taken back to those days by Eminem’s performance of the Academy Award winning song on Sunday night. Backup dancers even donned baggy hoodies to commemorate the event.
The moment that was sure to get the audience out of their seats was when Dr. Dre sat at a white grand piano, leaving us all in anticipation of the key repetition he was about to play. Still D.R.E -Dr. Dre’s most popular and globally recognized song ended the Halftime show. Almost 23 years after the song’s initial release date Dr. Dre’s voice has somehow managed to stay exactly the same. How anyone managed to remain interested in watching more football after this triumphant half time show is beyond me.
