Toronto Raptors – Masai Or Messiah Ujiri?

Many franchises spend decades trying to find that leader to navigate the ship to the promise land.  The Toronto Raptors have been lucky to have Masai Ujiri not once but twice as part of their executive team.  The first time in 2006 he was hired as Director Of Global Scouting and then became Assistant GM in 2008.  He returned to the Denver Nuggets as GM in 2010 however the Raptors smartly brought him back with a lucrative 5 Year, 15-Million-dollar deal to become the team’s Executive VP and GM.

This was a defining moment in franchise history.  We hired one of the smartest basketball minds in the World to be our leader.  He implemented the blueprint which not only led the Toronto Raptors to their first championship in franchise history in 2019 but also laid the foundation for this team to be a contender for the foreseeable future.  Masai’s teams have not only produced on the court, but they have also produced off the court.  The franchise value has increased over 500 Million dollars from 2013, when he was hired to present day, 2021.  Bell, Rogers, and Larry Tannenbaum pockets are overflowing.  Masai has not only delivered for the everyday fan, but he has also kept his bosses at MLSE (Maple Leaf & Sport Entertainment), extremely happy.

Raptors fans ended up breathing a big sigh of relief on Aug.5th, 2021 when Masai Ujiri resigned with the team once again for 15 Million Dollars per year.  It has not officially been reported but we believe it is for another 5-year term.  This time with a much deserving new title as Vice-Chairman & President of the Toronto Raptors.  After a long negotiation period and fending off a bunch of offers coming his way from other NBA teams and other Sports Franchises, including one from an anonyms English Premier League Team.  We also have been getting tidbits of information trickling in about a meeting with Edward Rogers’s, son of Ted Rogers, who is involved in a battle of Power and control of the company with his Mother Loretta and two sisters.  Apparently, Edward did not see Masai’s value and felt that he was replaceable.  Rogers owns 37.5% of MLSE, Bell owns 37.5% of MLSE and Larry Tannenbaum holds the remaining 25%.  Thankfully, Larry – Chairman of the MLSE Board sided with Bell and vetoed Rogers, bringing back Masai.  The toughest part of Larry’s veto was not the Board Room battle but more the conversation with Masai who was caught off guard by the words Edward Rogers was slinging about Ujiri’s character and lack of vision presented for the team’s future.

The good news is the deal got done.  Larry was able to convince Masai Ujiri that he was indeed wanted and showed his gratitude for all he has done for the Toronto Raptors franchise, the City Of Toronto and all of Canada.  Not to mention all the Philanthropy work he has done in Canada, Africa and across the globe.

Messiah has a couple of definitions:  In Hebrew it means “The Chosen One”.In the Cambridge Dictionary it states:  “Messiah is a leader who is believed to have the power to solve the world’s problems”.
I am by no means comparing the Toronto Raptors to worldly issues.  However, as a die-hard Toronto Raptors Fan I am officially anointing Masai as Messiah Ujiri.

Lead us to promise land again Masai!
